Fawn Pierre: Founder of SmartyPup!

Fawn Pierre began her professional dog-training career with Sirius® Puppy training in 1995. In 2008, she launched her own innovative puppy-training program: SMARTYPUP!®

Fawn with co-founder BebopFawn is a proud third generation San Franciscan, well known for her exceptional teaching abilities, her excellent training skills, her informative and entertaining classes, her approachable attitude, and her talent for cultivating the human-canine bond. She has mentored and trained other dog professionals in a variety of pet care industries here at home and from all over the world.

Most importantly Fawn celebrates each new puppy class!

Fawn was San Francisco Sirius® Puppy Training's instructor for 14 years working exclussively with puppies and their people. In that time she worked as a trainer in the Behavior and Training Department at the SFSPCA where she helped develop numerous shelter programs including treatment programs and evaluation guidelines. After graduating with honors from the San Francisco SPCA Dog Training Academy in 2000, she went on to teach clicker training and obedience training progressions to academy students. In addition, she taught the unit on puppy class instruction for 7 years to academy students.  In 1999, she created the first structured puppy daycare in the country, emphasizing the importance of early socialization, in home management and basic training for puppies.

A member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers since 1995, Fawn continues her studies in the area of dog (and people) learning and behavior.

In a letter to San Francisco Veterinarians, Dr. Ian Dunbar, founder of Sirius® Puppy Training wrote “ […], without a doubt Fawn is the most experienced and the most talented puppy trainer in San Francisco. She is a natural teacher — utterly conscientious, creative, fast-paced, funny and extremely engaging. When you entrust your puppy clients to Fawn, you may rest assured that they are going to receive the very best education.”

Fawn Pierre believes training a dog should be a happy experience — both for the dog as well as the human. She is a gifted storyteller and has unique abilities to diagnose and resolve issues creatively and to communicate solutions affably and clearly — resulting in smiles and wags all around. Fawn brings a wealth of experience as well as an easygoing and caring approach to training.

Two out of three dogs (and their people) in San Francisco recommend Fawn Pierre!

She and her first dog Bebop (1994-2009) spent 15 years together learning and teaching people and their pups. Each day his dog soul guides and reminds her that each dog and person is unique and deserves simply the best and most intelligent guidance possible.

Fawn has lived and studied in Paris, Bayonne, and Rome and still thinks San Francisco is the best place on earth! In her spare time, Fawn surfs in Bolinas, spends alot of time with her dog BigE, and simply enjoys a good life.  She speaks French, Italian, and Dog!

Mission Statement:  Fawn is dedicated to enhancing the human-dog bond by promoting interactive harmony and interspecies appreciation, while striving to raise the dog’s quality of life and contributing to people's understanding of domestic dog behavior.

Fawn and Bebop thank you for loving your dog!

Yelp Review 3/22/2010

No doubt about it- Fawn Pierre, lead trainer at Smarty Pup,   has a
unique ability to help us to understand our dogs. As a veterinarian, I
attended one of her classes to learn about a different way to train my
new puppy and her methods and explanations on "the dogs mind" were a
tremendous insight. Almost any trainer can train your dog, but it takes a

"It is essential to understand and train dogs-as-dogs. They should be taught to respect people-as-people, and learn that people are always in control. It is possible to effectively establish control over a dog psychologically through trust and respect using intellect instead of intimidation."
