AKC Trick Dog

Ever wanted to showcase your dog’s skills and earn an official AKC title? At SmartyPup!, we make it straightforward (and fun). Our Tricks classes teach the behaviors you need, and our AKC-approved evaluators can evaluate and sign off during class—no separate “test day” required.

How It Works

1. Perform the tricks
   In SmartyPup! Tricks, you and your dog will learn and perform at least 10 of the required behaviors for an AKC Trick Dog title. You’ll demonstrate these tricks in the presence of an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator.
2. Submit your application
   Once your dog is ready, you’ll submit your application and the checklist for the title you’re applying for. You’ll need:
   • Your AKC number
   • A signed evaluator form
   • The AKC processing fee
3. Receive your title (and celebrate)
   Your AKC Trick Dog title will be mailed to you—and SmartyPup! will celebrate your achievement with a New Title Rosette Ribbon.

Tricks You May Master in Class

• Balance Beam — walks on a low beam
• Bark on Cue (“Speak”) — barks on cue
• Crawl — crawls at least 5 feet
• Fetch It — retrieves an item and brings it back
• Find It — locates a hidden treat or toy
• Get Your ____ — brings a named item
• Hand Signals — follows hand signals for basic cues (sit/down/come)
• High Five — offers a high five
• Jump — jumps over a barrier or through a hoop
• Kennel Up — goes into a crate on cue
• Kisses — kisses the handler on cue
• Paws Up — places front paws on a low object
• Push-Ups — alternating sit/down on cue
• Shake Hands — offers a paw/handshake
• Spin — spins in a circle
• Touch — nose-targets a hand or target
• Tunnel — goes through a tunnel
• Hold (3 sec) — holds an object for 3 seconds
